As Kelda opens the results season, in the City analysts are chiefly concerned with the potential to enhance shareholder value through a combination of share buybacks and increased gearing that has been made possible by the renewed attractiveness of the sector's debt. The other theme likely to emerge is that the cost of energy: water and sewage is far more actively managed than it was in 1989 and even before the recent oil price hikes there had been concern about the cost of pumping these heavy liquids.
