Spain's environment minister Cristina Narbona has presented a ?1.5 billion renewable energies program linked directly to the government's ?3.9 billion desalination-based Program AGUA aimed at alleviating the country's endemic drought. The crux of the plan calls for wind energy to power the twenty or more desalination plants that will come into operation over the next three years. "Energy consumed by desalination plants should come from clean generation," Narbona said.
