A dispute between the Czech Republic and the European Commission over the funding of water projects could make the 2010 deadline for upgrading the country's sewerage provision impossible. The European Commission is withholding cohesion funds totaling CZK1.5 billion (?53.1 million) for four Czech projects because it says the contracts signed with the private companies operating their water and sewerage services do not meet European standards.
