Britain, Germany and North America. Essentially that's how Thames intends to make its money in the foreseeable future. It will continue to have some operations in the developing world, but these are as likely to focus on provision of expertise as on outright investment. The regulatory environment is simply not good enough and, once initial World Bank funding dries up, there's too much of a risk that the original contract arrangements won't be honored. That, in essence, is the thinking of Bill Alexander, Thames Water's CEO. And the consequence, of course, is the likely sell-off of some of the company's current overseas operations.
