The Argentine government is scheduled to hold the first in a series of public meetings on the contracts of the country's privatized utility companies on April 20. According to a Control Risks analysis, President Kirchner is unlikely to soften his nationalist stance and foreign investor confidence will again be undermined. However, Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna, has rejected renationalization of privatised utilities. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Lavagna said: "No way do I think we should renationalize companies or anything of the sort." But he said that it would be wrong to return to pre-1990s liberal policies. "The conservative right wants to get back to financial speculation," Mr Lavagna said. "We will pull through only if we avoid the pressures from both sides.
