The sign on the print department says it all: "No cell Phones Allowed in Pressroom." Not because it might spark a fire. It's that phones interfere with the electronic sig- nals flying among the presses at mile-high Vision Graphics, Loveland, CO. The 90-employee company is integrating its print services to become an indispensable component of client marketing communications—in packaging, catalogs, manuals and collateral. At the same time Vision has extended and integrated its manufacturing infrastructure—taking a "systems approach" to everything from its hybrid UV and conventional offset press-es, to centralized recycling of press cleaning chemistry, to networking its pre-press to its press room. And very significant-ly, it is linked further upstream to clients. Tying customers into its workflow, Vision uses Creo's Synapse InSite, with secure Internet access to job files and proofs. It also uses Creo Prepare to facilitate press-ready PDF creation by designers and production artists, who submit work directly from Quark or InDesign plug-ins that transmit the files to Vision Graphics for online approval via InSite.
