A new housing development in London, Greenwich millennium village, shows what can be achieved when communities are centred around public space. Jeremy Dodd, of developer Greenwich millennium village, reports. Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV) is a residential development on the Greenwich Peninsula in southeast London, created by a joint venture of Countryside Properties and Taylor Woodrow. It is essentially the vision of one man - the late Ralph Erskine -an architect and masterplanner with an international reputation. Erskine believed that people would recognise that GMV had been designed to safeguard environmental sustainability, and lead the way to a future that is less car dependent by showing how quality of life can continue to improve.
