Loggers hoping for pandemic-related assistance from Congress may not see it in the next COVID-19 relief package. The aid measures released by Senate Republicans yesterday don't include a logging business provision championed by the industry and supported by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and other lawmakers (E&E Daily, July 28). Without help, industry representatives said, the forest products business - and the forest stewardship that goes with it - will take a hit in many states. The industry estimates the nation's timber harvest could fall 20% this year, thanks to the drop in demand tied to the pandemic (E&E Daily, July 22).
