The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Petroleum Institute, two of the country's top lobbying heavyweights, have come out in support of direct federal regulation of methane — a powerful greenhouse gas more efficient at trapping heat than carbon dioxide in the near term. The Chamber updated its website yesterday to say it backs "the continued reductions of methane emissions, both voluntarily and by direct regulation under the Clean Air Act," a new stance that coincides with the start of President Biden's term.
