A federal appeals court has granted the Biden administration's request to dump two Trump-era EPA rules on greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, energy facilities and other sources. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued a short order yesterday scrapping the Trump administration's 2019 rule delaying implementation of an Obama-era regulation governing landfill emissions. Landfills are the nation's third-largest source of human-released methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The Trump administration had argued that delaying the rule was necessary to give states more time to craft their implementation plans under the 2016 "Emission Guidelines and Compliance Times for Municipal Solid Waste Landfills."
