U.S. Park Police officers in San Francisco are set to begin wearing body cameras Sunday in the first phase of a project that calls for equipping the entire department by the end of the year. The project is a top priority for Pamela Smith, the department's new chief, who began her duties Feb. 28 (E&E News PM, Feb. 25). "Today, I'm proud to follow up on my commitment to implement a body-worn camera program within my first 90 days as chief of police," Smith said yesterday afternoon in San Francisco, where she's overseeing implementation of the new program. "This body-worn camera program will aim to enhance our public transparency in law enforcement for community contact, provide objective evidence and document our officers' actions while performing their duties," she added.
