The Biden administration announced it intends to nominate Rachel Jacobson, the former top environmentallawyer for the Pentagon, to be assistant secretary of the Army for installations and environment.Jacobson is currently an environmental lawyer at the firm WilmerHale.She began her career in the Department of Justice, where she served foralmost 20 years. Jacobson spent much of that time in the Environment andNatural Resources Division, where she litigated cases such as the ExxonValdez oil spill.Jacobson has served in several other roles in the federal government,including as acting assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks at theDepartment of the Interior and before that as Interior's principal deputysolicitor. There, she spearheaded negotiations with BP PLC following theDeepwater Horizon oil spill.
