The seafloor where the Mississippi River Delta fingers into the Gulf of Mexico is wearing away just like Louisiana's coastline, according to new research. Scientists have long known that dams built on the Mississippi River and its tributaries during the 20th century have been blocking sediment from replenishing coastal wetlands in Louisiana, contributing to coastal erosion.
