The world's top power plant developers plan to expand the coal-fired fleet by a third despite International climate goals, according to a report released today by a German environmental group and its 28 partners.rnUrgewald and its coalition rolled out the Mst of the 120 biggest global coal developers ahead of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on efforts to keep global temperatures from rising 1.5 degrees Celsius.rn"Building new coal plants is an assault on the Paris climate goals," Urgewald Director Heffa Schucking said in a statement. "Our list names the top companies investors and banks need to shun if they are committed to limiting our planet's temperature rise."rnSince the Paris climate accord was brokered in 2015, the report says, the global coal sector has added 92,000 megawatts despite the pipeline of prospective plants shrinking and another banner year for renewable energy.
