A wildlife refuge in California may be the first of its kind to be fully powered by solar energy. The ARK sanctuary, operated by the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) near San Andreas, is one of the nonprofit's three Northern California sanctuaries. The 2,300-acre site is using solar energy to power all of its operations, and is capturing copious amounts of sun thanks to its location on the rolling hills of Calaveras County.
