摘要

Rocky Mountain National Park announced yesterday that it will decide in May whether to raise annual and weekly entrance fees by half to pay for needed maintenance after receiving a record 3.4 million visitors last year. The rate hike is part of a broader push by the National Park Service to use higher visitor fees to pay for at least a portion of an estimated $11.5 billion backlog of repairs, a plan drawing scrutiny from some congressional Republicans worried it will discourage visitors. Rocky Mountain spokesman Kyle Patterson said the Colorado park, which sells 35,000 annual passes each year, will raise prices for a yearly pass from $40 to $60 by 2017. The cost of a weekly pass would jump from $20 to $30. The park would also offer a one-day pass that would cost as much as a weekly pass does presently.
