Two U.S.-based renewable energy companies unveiled a deal to build more than 20,000 megawatts of clean energy capacity in India by 2022. SunEdison Inc. and First Solar Inc. announced the plans yesterday at India's first renewable energy conference. SunEdison said the plans include the construction of 15,200 MW of solar and wind power capacity over the next seven years, while First Solar said it would develop 5,000 MW of solar energy by 2019. The deal comes as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to meet targets of 100,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, an increase that would be 33 times the country's current capacity.
