Last year was Earth's warmest year on record for both land and ocean surfaces, according to scientists at both NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The news was quickly heralded by activists as further proof that climate change is a growing problem -- particularly since two federal agencies independently came to the same conclusion. Japan's Meteorological Agency also recently confirmed that 2014 was the warmest year since records began in the late 1800s.
