Brazil's "king of deforestation," who the country's environment ministry says was responsible for 10 percent of Brazilian Amazon rainforest destruction last year, has been arrested. Ezequiel Antônio Castanha, who was given his nickname by local media, and 15 associates were arrested last weekend after several months on the run. From January to July 2014, 1,872 square miles of rainforest was cleared in Brazil, and about one-fifth of that was along the BR-163 highway in the state of Pará. Officials suspect Castanha and his gang are responsible for most of the destruction along the highway.
