The security system for one of the country's most sensitive nuclear sites has not met government standards. In a report released today, Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman said the security system for the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee "had not met [the National Nuclear Security Administration's] mandate to develop and implement a comprehensive method for managing and integrating the site's security and access control systems." Y-12's project to update its security system was completed in 2013 and cost more than $50 million. The department watchdog did note that the new security system, known as Argus, was finished on time and on budget.
