The expiration of a key patent held by Hitachi Metals Ltd. could open the door for Chinese rare earth producers to expand exports of tiny magnets used in an array of consumer products. The loss of the patent will help previously blocked Chinese companies enter the U.S. market, said Sun Baoyu, the chairman of Shenyang General Magnetic Co.
