Until Aug. 30, beauty is on the sides of the trash holder in Sacramento, Calif. For a public project called "The Art of the Dumpster," local artists transformed 10 industrialsized waste receptacles donated by local waste management companies. The receptacles are a symbol of the aging industrial center of California's capital. The Power Inn Alliance, a coalition of neighborhood businesses and property owners, commissioned the works, which will sit just feet from Power Inn Road, used by 45,000 commuters daily. "No one comes shopping in Power Inn, unless you're an industrialist," said Jerry Vorpahl, executive director of the Power Inn Alliance. "This gives it a fun, human flavor."
