The Bureau of Land Management has done a poor job evaluating the environmental impacts of a proposed commercial-scale solar project adjacent to the Mojave National Preserve, the park unit's superintendent said, warning that if the project is built, it will have potentially devastating impacts to threatened and endangered species. Stephanie Dubois, the preserve's superintendent since 2011, ripped BLM in a strongly worded eight-page letter to agency officials in California. In it, she asserts that BLM failed to properly analyze the proposed 358-megawatt Soda Mountain Solar Project, which is proposed to sit less than a mile away from the Mojave National Preserve, which is one of the largest national park units in the lower 48 states at 1.6 million acres.
