摘要

Groundwater and Ecosystems (Riberio et al. 2013) is a compilation of contributions that were originally presented at the 35th Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists in 2007. Most of the manuscripts were updated with new data and analyses conducted from the congress to the time of submission for the book. After a chapter on a toolbox for assessing ecological water requirements for groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) in Australia, there are chapters on basic science and case studies related to surface water-groundwater interactions, water chemistry, innovative mapping and measurement tools and techniques, modeling, and other analysis techniques. The book has outstanding global coverage in 24 chapters, with 86 contributors presenting studies from 13 countries and 5 continents. A foreword to the book was written by the Director of the IAH Groundwater and Ecosystem Network, Joseph Gurrieri. The book could have benefited from having been organized by subthemes with subsections clearly labeled. The organization of the chapters in the book is not intuitive to the reader until after reading the entire book.
