Rozell commented on our paper (Flewelling and Sharma 2014) about constraints on potential upward migration of hydraulic fracturing (HF) fluid and brine from black shales and other tight formations. Rozell's overarching assertion is that the "current state of knowledge should discourage us from making overly conclusive remarks regarding the likelihood of contamination of potable waters from [HF] processes." As a corollary, Rozell also asserts that our conclusion of physical implau-sibility is premature, due to uncertainty surrounding HF.
