This column thrives on the exchange of information that concerns shared interests among groundwater professionals, including the means to strengthen our own and others' geoscience education and enhance the linkage between geosciences and public policy. Correspondingly, globally communicated goals exist for the development and implementation of programs and policies that improve understanding of the current and future status of the quantity and quality of groundwater resources. Below are samples of worldwide science and engineering challenges faced by groundwater professionals. 1. Data: Improving data quality and utility at local to regional scales (i.e., basic data maintenance and archival needs; furtherance of fundamental data collection, application, integration, and representativeness).
