This commentary is a sequel to the Technical Commentary by Yeh and Lee (2007). The position taken by the author is that upgrading aquifer test analysis by more fully using recent but largely ignored theory and software can substantially improve the credibility of aquifer test results. This will require, in many cases, moving from traditional analytical methods to numerical methods to invert a Laplace transform and numerical modeling techniques as well as the technology mentioned by Yeh and Lee (2007). Upgrading aquifer test analysis can also help reduce uncertainties surrounding ground water flow and transport model calibration, optimization, and uniqueness.
