摘要

The system was successful in controlling body weight gain or loss within acceptable limits. An im- provement would be to have the drinker also on a computer-interfaced balance. Consumption of both food and water would be allowed when weight was below target. At target, the feeder and drinker would both be removed from access. Thus, both food and water consumption would be measured continu- ously. Using the system simultaneously with indi- rect calorimetry means that it should be possible to control rate of energy deposition rather than weight gain. Automated control of body energy mainte- nance would permit study of the consequences for body composition, and the effects on maintenance requirements, of altering dietary energy:protein ra- tio(MacLeod,1990).
