It is well known, but not always appreciated, that congenital defects tend to be multiple and are often quite variable in their manifestation. When attempting to treat these human maldevelopments, one should always be alert to detect additional trouble beyond those listed in a classic syndrome. Often problems for the patient may arise from areas distant from the main defect, and may even be in some other part of the body. One should also be aware that the classic syndrome under consideration may be only a part of a more widespread maldevelopment.
