At Convergence in Vancouver, I happened upon a vendor's booth featuring a small display of handpainted skeins of yarn. "Wow, what is this fiber?" I inquired, stroking a skein of rich, glossy colors. Although it looked and felt like silk, it was Tencel. I had heard of Tencel, of course, and knew of its similarity to rayon. I had also read about its friendly environmental impact, but I had never held a skein in my hand. Tencel has silk's lustrous quality, but the price per pound is far lower!
