Two Ontario-based companies recently received recognition plaques for their achievements in eliminating polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from their inventory of electrical equipment. Environment Canada and the United States Environmental Protection Agency presented the awards to Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for its Nanticoke Generating Station, and General Motors of Canada (GM Canada) for its St. Catharines Powertrain Operations Plant. The awards were presented in May in Toronto. The awards recognize their contribution to meeting the goals of the Great Lakes Binational Toxics Strategy - a joint program of the Canadian and U.S. governments. Last year, Hydro One, StelPipe Inc. (a division of Stelco), Slater Steels, Enersource Hydro Mississauga, the City of Thunder Bay and Canadian Niagara Power received similar awards.
