摘要

Although bans against the use of asbestos are in place in the United States and most of the European Union, more than 60 countries continue to use it. Canada is still one of the largest producers of asbestos in the world. Brazil, Russia, China and Kazakhstan are the other main producers. However, unlike some of the other major producing countries, Canada exports over 90 per cent of its asbestos — an industry worth more than $100 million annually. Most of the current asbestos production is used to make asbestos cement products, such as tiles, water tanks, tubes and pipes. The remainder is used mainly by the automotive and textile industries.
