摘要

Oil, chemical, radiological, biological and etiologi-cal discharges into the U.S. environment are reported to the National Response Center (NRC). According to the latest NRC data, there were 3,044 incidents reported in 2002 and 2,809 through to October 26, 2003 involving storage tanks. For example, one incident was the result of a driver losing control of a vehicle and impacting a storage tank causing a release of 45,000 gallons of fuel. In light of incidents such as these, North American tank users are well advised to know the current standards regarding aboveground tanks for dispensing motor fuel. Installations of aboveground flammable liquid tanks are required to comply with the applicable installation codes adopted by local authorities in North American jurisdictions. In the United States, jurisdictions generally reference the installation requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) or the International Fire Code (IFC).
