1. Raytheon is to develop a new airborne launcher, able to fire radio-frequency guided TOW missiles and integrated into the Northrop Grumman suite of glass cockpit upgrades. The package is initially being developed for the Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter, with the first customer expected to be the Pakistan Army.rnThe TOW (tube-launched, optically tracked, wire guided) missile is available in several versions, and the new airborne launcher will be compatible with both past and present variants. First introduced in 1970, the TOW missile was effectively used during the latter stages of the Vietnam War and in Iraq by the US Army which in recent years has funded development of the wireless TOW-2B and TOW-ER variants. Both utilise a radio command link, replacing the original wire guidance system. The new system isrnimmune to IR countermeasures and extends the range beyond 4.5 km (2.8 miles).
