With billions of dollars of hotel investment pouring in, the Philippines is blossoming into a leisure travel destination. While the island nation abounds with beautiful beaches and a tropical climate, restrictions on foreigners owning property and a lack of transportation infrastructure has deterred large-scale investment in hotels, particularly in the leisure sector. However, today the island nation's real estate boom, unabated by the West's financial crisis, is birthing a Macau-sized pipeline of hotel-casino mega-complexes.
