Post-World Cup, South Africa suffers from overbuilding and economic contagion, but no shortage of optimism. According to Arthur Gillis, it is the classic story of greed getting the best of a marketplace — in this case South Africa — and creating significant distress. The CEO of Protea Hospitality Group, the largest hotel group in Africa with some 130 hotels in eight countries, says his phone is ringing constantly as neophyte owners look to sell out of bad positions.
