As any good executive would whenrntaking day-to-day control of an organization, Four Seasons Hotels' recently appointed CEO Kathleen "Katie" Taylor is doing a lot of listening. In fact, when she called in for this interview, Taylor was on a break from a week-long Four Seasons leadership retreat with 40 or so ofrnher colleagues. "I do a little bit of talking and a lot of listening," says Taylor, who is transitioning into her new role, following in the footsteps of company founder and still Chairman Isadore "Issy" Sharp. In preparation, Taylor has spent 21 years at Four Seasons, wearing multiple job hats and watching the company expand to its current portfolio size of 82 hotels, and all the while listening and learning about what it takes to successfully run a luxury hotel company. But for Taylor, now 52, the leadership role is not completely unfamiliar territory as she has been president and COO since January 2007 with the company's senior leadership team reporting directly to her since the end of 2006. Now, however, her profile has been raised and she is charged with taking what is now a mature hotel company wading through today's choppy waters to the next level. In this interview, Taylor shares a little bit more about herself, her style and her plans going forward.
