The mandate in Saudi Arabia from King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud is to ensure that tourism adds value to the economy, culture and society. To that end, the kingdom is further embracing its color, food and music as part of a strategic plan that includes significant hotel development. While tourism going forward will remain mostly regional and religion-based, hotel companies see an opportunity to further develop their brands throughout the kingdom. "With responsibility for three new sectors as well as development of three more, we will be dealing with antiquities and museums, including exploration, accommodation, travel agents, tour operators and tourism master plans," says Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, chairman of the board and secretary general of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities.
