Atroubled global economy driven by multiple credit crises, markets in disarray and declines in both consumer and business confidence paints a bleak picture for hotel owners and operators in the year ahead. Jones Lang LaSalle's Global Market Perspective reports that gross domestic product is either stagnant or falling in countries across the globe, and even formerly robust emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and China are no longer immune to declines. The United Nations World Tourism Organization's initial forecast predicts an overall modest performance, with a slowdown in growth continuing across the board at least for the short to medium term.
