New York City's historic Algonquin Hotel has begun loaning out Amazon Kindles, handheld devices that let users download and digitally read full-length books. During the 1920s, the hotel was famously home to the Algonquin Round Table, a group of writers and actors who ate lunch together daily for about 10 years. Among the Round Table regulars were literary giants Edna Ferber, Robert Benchley and Harold Ross. Additionally, the hotel maintains original owner Frank Case's longstanding tradition of offering lunch discounts to struggling writers.
