After five patient years of brand building, primarily in Japan, Tokyo-based Okura Hotels & Resorts is readying an international expansion push that will double the group's 25-hotel portfolio by 2010. "Seventy percent of our portfolio was in Japan. That placed too much emphasis on the domestic market," says Toshihiro Ogita, executive director and senior corporate executive officer, Hotel Okura Co. Ltd.. "This new growth plan justifies our geographic portfolio. Our target will be to have 60% of our 50-hotel portfolio within Japan and 40% outside."
