This year is shaping up as a battle royale among leading hotel franchisors. Even with billions of dollars chasing hotel deals, competition is fierce. Every major brand is vying for investors' attention with lower cost development and conversion packages, market-driven prototypes, a cadre of yield-building consultative services and the promise of more efficient-and cheaper-distribution management. A brisk transaction pace should fuel a fair number of pipelines, but it does not change the fact that this is, a franchise buyer's market.
