Wireless―that ambiguous buzzword that has taken the hotel industry by storm in the last year―has made its way into the in-room energy management system (EMS) realm. While each system uses wireless in a different manner, they all have one common goal: Conserve energy and save costs while alleviating hotel rooms of hard-wiring problems. "An interesting advantage of wireless energy management systems is that it saves you from the hassles of rewiring when you make a change to the room," says Phil Sprague, president, PSA Hotel Energy Consultants, Minneapolis, Minnesota. "It's truly an advantage from a maintenance point of view, and aesthetically, it is a much more attractive product."
