Four turbines at the Gabonese Republic's 160 MW Grand Poubara plant are in operation, following the completion of a 72-hour trial run recently. Grand Poubara is being built in two phases, with the activation of the four turbines marking the completion of the second. The project was built in 56 months under an engineering-procurement-construction basis by PowerChina subsidiary Sinohydro Corporation. The project is on the Ogooue River about 15 km from Franceville, where it is expected to provide a boost to economic and social development.
