Russian utility RAO-UES uses a 160-KW hydropower plant on the Nerl-Volzhskaya River to field test new technologies. One such technology recently tested is the Hydroplusfusegate system. RAO tested the fusegates as an alternative to conventional gates that present numerous problems owing to lack of proper maintenance, especially at small hydro sites. Results show thefusegates can be a viable alternative for use on spillways, even in the harsh Russian winters.
