The 1,070-MW Nam Theun 2 project in Laos is the fast large hydroelectric project to receive World Bank funding since the approval of the bank's new Water Resources Sector Strategy. In evaluating the project for funding, the bank focused on how Nam Theun 2 will ensure a better future for the people of Laos, and paid special attention to environmental and social effects.
