SNC-Lavalin Inc. through its special purpose vehicle, InPower BC, has begun excavating a water-intake tunnel for the US$1.09 billion modernization of the John Hart Generating Station. Work on the tunnel is scheduled to continue through 2017. It should result in a delivery system that has a diameter of 8.1 m (26.5 ft) that will run about 1,500 m (0.9 mi) from John Hart Dam to the new generating station and then another 600 m (0.4 mi), through a tailrace tunnel, to the Campbell River.
