摘要

As part of the final year of a part-time MBA (master of Business Administration) at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, candidates are required to carry out some research into a topic of their choosing. As a Surveyor, I felt that analysing a hypothesis that Hydrographic Organisations may have a problem in recruiting and retaining staff would be a suitable subject. This premise, as Mr Mott (Chairman, THS UK) suggests in the February issue of 'Soundings', may not be correct. However little, if any, research into the validity of such a statement and the related issues has been conducted before so, I have chosen to investigate it for my dissertation. The research will challenge the validity of the theory and perhaps highlight some the cause and effect conditions that both employees and companies may find of use in the future.
