摘要

This paper presents an abridged version of an MSc Hydrography dissertation. The paper describes the experimental Work undertaken by the student; his experiences of setting up the Experimental conditions are followed by the results concurring With the theory expounded by Urick and others. The experimental Work enabled the student to expand his knowledge of acoustic Theory and to draw conclusions about target type and aspect and The impact of seabed relief, giving due consideration the limitations Of particular equipment. Stephen Philpott was awarded the RICS Prize for the 'best overall Performance' on his programme of study.
