High profile wishful thinking?- My sailing club has a problem; indeed it has had a problem for the last 20 years. All those years ago, it was concluded that the ideal membership number would be 500 but it has consistently varied around 400 plus/minus 50. During that time we tried high profile promotion of the club by appearing at boating/sailing exhibitions. Although it was great fun to be on the club stand busily 'promoting', we really only managed to recruit one or two members each year as a direct result of our high profile presence.
